Palkittu mediataitelija Tiina Törmäkangas palaa alkuperäisen intohimonsa lähteille kolmella tila-aika-teoksella sarjasta ”Paha Silmä”
Näyttelyn teokset ovat nimeltään:
- ”Ceci n’est pas une Peine” (Tämä ei ole Kakku). Teos käsittelee myöhäis- ja valvontakapitalismi-oirehdintaa sekä nykyäitiyden haasteita. Siinä pohditaan, onko tulevaisuus tärveltävä muovilla, e-koodeilla ja somevideopostauksilla, vai pitäisikö nykyisyys vain lusia tuomiopäivää/suurta nollausta/singulariteettia odotellen?
- ”Infinite Jest” (Päättymätön riemu) on surullisen kuuluisa ”tappava videotaideteos, joka on niin vaikuttava, ettei sen katsomista voi lopettaa, ja siksi se ennen pitkää aiheuttaa katsojan kuoleman”. (Mukavuussyistä teos esitetään näyttelyssä lyhennettynä).
- ”Gaian Graali” kuvaa planetaarista systeemiä, jossa ei ole mitään, mitä Gaia ei olisi sinne vuosimiljardien aikana improvisoinut. Teos korostaa ekosofista determinismiä ja sitä ymmärrystä, että Gaia kyllä korjaa aina lopulta virheensä.
Tiina Törmäkangas on tamperelainen kuvataiteilija, tutkija ja taiteen tohtori, joka on uransa aikana tehnyt lukuisia palkittuja taidevideoita ja lyhytelokuvia. Läpileikkaavana teemana hänen töissä on surrealistinen, spekulatiivinen ja luontokeskeinen tapa tarkastella maailmaa. Unet ja tiedostamattoman vaikutus yhdistyvät yhteiskunnallisiin teemoihin; orgaaniset, pyöreät muodot ovat kerronnallisesti tärkeitä. Tällä hetkellä Tiina asemoi itsensä anti-AI tai Post-AI taiteen kentälle, jossa tekijän kädenjälki (ilman ylimääräisiä niveliä ja muhkuroita) saa näkyä luomisprosessin yhteydessä.

The exhibition’s works are titled:
- ”Ceci n’est pas une Peine” (This is not a cake). The work deals with the symptoms of late- and surveillance capitalism and the challenges of contemporary motherhood. The work contemplates whether the future should be waisted by e-codes, plastic derivatives and social media videoposts, or more mundanely spent by waiting for doomsday/the great reset/ singularity.
- ”Infinite Jest” is the notorious video-art-“film that is so compelling that the viewer loses all interest in anything other than repeatedly viewing it, and thus eventually die.” (For convenience, the work will be presented in a shortened form at the exhibition.)
- ”Gaia’s Holy Grail” depicts a planetary system in which there is nothing that Gaia has not improvised over billions of years. The work emphasizes ecosophical determinism and the understanding that Gaia ultimately rectifies all her mistakes.
Tiina Törmäkangas is a visual artist, researcher, and Doctor of Arts, who has created numerous award-winning art videos and short films during her career. The overarching theme in her work is a surreal, speculative, and terra-centered way of looking at the world. Dreams and the influence of the subconscious combine with societal themes; organic, round shapes are narratively significant. Currently, Tiina positions herself in the anti-AI or Post-AI art field, where the creator’s handprint (without extra joints and lumps) is visible in the creative process
